Daydream Nation - segnali da un'America diversa

Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to all the people and their
families affected by the attacks on Tuesday. The loss of innocent life is
just terrible, and our thoughts go out to all of you who personally may
have had friends or family killed or injured in the tragedy. The pain felt
across the country demonstrates the lesson of Tuesday's events: that the
taking of innocent life is devastating to a society and terribly wrong.

On Tuesday, the victims were American. But the horrible scenes that we've
witnessed on TV this week are regular occurrences in other places around
the globe. And too often, violence like this has been meted out by our own
country and its client states. We should stand together against this type
of violence in all its forms, whenever it happens, whether its done in the
name of religious fanaticism, or in the names of our own domestic elite.

Our best wishes go out to all of you. Take care of yourselves, and each
other.
Peace

I don't know what todays outcome means for the future, but it doesn't seem
positive. We don't really have an objective in this situation, and it makes
a definitive end ambiguous. A scary thought. So what if we do get bin Laden?
Then what? we'll leave Afghanistan to be miserable again... The truth is,
you cannot be careful with war in any context. People will get hurt.
Though the physical activity isn't going on on the west coast, our security
is jeopardized just the same. Please keep a good head.

October 11, 2001:
I want to invite you to stay silent for 1 minute in remembrance of
the 7,000 innocent civilians who lost their lives in NY and Washington one
month ago today. Now please stay silent for another 13 minutes and remember
the 130,000 innocent Iraqi civilians who died in 1991 from American bombs.
Now a further 20 minutes for the 200,000 innocent Iranian civilians
murdered by Hussein with money and arms provided by the US before they
turned against him. Then think for 15 minutes about the Russians and
150,000 Afghan civilians killed by the US-created Taliban, by order of the
US. I could also suggest that you keep silent in remembrance of all the
innocent civilians who have been murdered over the years in Latin America
and South America by US-funded, US-trained guerrillas, etc. and for all the
rest of innocent people who have ever been killed in a terrorist attack,
whom you didn't know, obviously, but then, many Americans who didn't know
anyone who died on September 11 are mourning those people. I'm talking
about nationalism, the mass brainwash that can make people actually have
very noble sentiments and sincere feelings of sadness for certain people
while feeling nothing at all for other people. That's the thought for the
day: how patriotism perverts even the most beautiful human feelings.
Good night.
